Supporting the AWARE Foundation's effort in marine conservation

Hi! I am Ekaterina Zlotnikova - PADI IDC Staff Instructor and MSc in biology and environmental science.

I'm raising funds to support PADI AWARE Foundation's incredible efforts in marine conservation. I work at White Seal -  PADI 5* ECO Center in St. Petersburg, Russia and our mission is to teach environmentally responsible divers and to involve non-divers into marine conservation through our activities.

We do regular clean-up on our local lake and in our diving trips, encourage divers to participate in citizen science and coral restoration. I personally volunteer at local schools to provide kids ideas what they can do to save the ocean. I believe that children must understand that our planet needs a lot of changes from people's side and they are also in charge!

Since 1992 with the help of supporters like you, they have helped to secure protection for 104 species of shark and ray, funded over 200 grantees across the Blueprint for Ocean Action and removed more than 2.5 million pieces of debris from the ocean floor.

Every dollar you contribute brings us one step closer to preserving the ocean we care passionately about and achieve the vision of balance between humanity and the ocean.

You can find more information about our dive center and our activities on the website https://whiteseal.club/ and social media https://vk.com/white_seal

First Mermaid against Debris dive

Tuesday 9th Sep
People, look! You put so much debris in our lake, that even mermaids start to clean it up!

Seriosly as a certified Mermaid I believe that pictures like this attract a lot of attention and this can be conerted to the attention for the marine debris problem.
During our scuba dives against debris we see, that most debris in this lake comes from the shore and stay shallow - up to 3 meters. So it was easy to find debris while snorkeling on the surface and then dive to collect it with mermaid tale. I was the only person to collect debris and was carrying debris bag by myself - collected about 1.5 kg of trash in one short dive.
Water temperature is 18 degreees Celsius, so wetsuit on!
