Fundraising for the PADI AWARE Foundation

We're raising funds to support the PADI AWARE Foundation's incredible work in marine conservation.

Since 1992, with the help of supporters like you, PADI AWARE has helped secure protection for 104 species of sharks and rays, funded more than 200 grantees through the Blueprint for Ocean Action, and removed over 2.5 million pieces of debris from the ocean floor.

Every dollar you give brings us one step closer to protecting the ocean we all care so passionately about, and to achieving a world in balance between humanity and the sea.

The pier has been damaged by hurricane's, no toilet facilities, tidal area, no central garbage disposal area, plastic and beer cans abound underwater.   We have been cleaning for the last nine years.  Diversinnmx is giving 10000usd towards this endeavor.  We need others to help.  Thousands of Mexican nationals, tourists, and children visit this contaminated beach.  There is a launch for locals to use that needs renovation as well.

Help Us Finish What We Started at Pichilingue

Friday 2nd Oct

From the road, Pichilingue looks fine.

I know what is on the bottom. I have been looking at it for nine years. Fishing line where the seahorses live. Plastic in the rocks. Cans in the sand. After a storm it looks like the beach emptied its pockets and never came back. No proper toilets. No central trash. A launch the local boats use that needs work. And every weekend the families still come, because it is theirs.

Richard and I made a promise. If no one else was going to start, we would. We stopped swimming past the junk. Nine years. Not a campaign. A habit.

This year we put our own money on it. DiversInnMX has committed $10,000 to the continued care of Pichilingue. Debris off the bottom. Markers that stay put. A watch on the seahorses. Repair where the reef has been knocked around.

The fundraiser is open so you can stand in it with us. It is in Richard’s name, on the PADI AWARE donation site, which is the tool PADI gave us for exactly this.

Give what you can. Ten dollars counts. So does sending the link to someone who loves this bay and has not seen what we pull up.

If you are here to dive, come do a Dive Against Debris survey dive with us, or a clean-up day. The survey is the count that goes on the record. The gift is what keeps the work going between boats.

We already started. Help us finish the part we cannot finish alone.

I will be on the boat. Bring gloves. Or send the link.
